A Mythic Evening for Men with Ian MacKenzie

In Robert Bly’s Iron John - the book that ignited a generation of “men’s work” - much has been said about the reclamation of the Wild Man - the deep undomesticated aspect of the modern man. And yet in the story, there is a key task the Wild Man offers to the young prince in order to liberate him from his cage. The prince must steal the key from under his mother’s pillow. What might it mean to steal the key? What is the relationship between the archetypal mother, a man’s sexuality, and anchoring living from erotic authenticity?
Through unpacking the myth, we’ll explore questions like:
Why the relationship between men and their mothers is often linked to unconscious shame around sexuality
How to understand the mother/whore dynamic with women and how to break free from it
What might be the function of male initiation in relation to their sexuality and the feminine
Stories from the village of lovers (Tamera) and their approach to healing the “son-man”
And much more.
Join filmmaker Ian MacKenzie (The Mythic Masculine, The Village of Lovers) as he weaves various influences into a provocative tapestry - from Burning Man to Tamera eco-village in Portugal, revealing the archetypal journey all men must take to become potent allies to each other, and to life itself.
This evening will be entertaining and enlightening, part storytelling and part experiential practice.
