Garden Sessions | Haus of Owl’s Multi-Disciplinary Open Stage

Garden Sessions is our city’s one and only all original multi-disciplinary open stage. Every month the stage in the ‘Garden’ gets transformed with studio lighting, beautiful stage design and a high quality sound system all set up by Jake Insley and Steve Craik who make Garden Sessions happen. How do you get your time on stage? Arrive when the doors open, jolt down your name on the list and you’ll be performing! The one rule of Garden Sessions is that what you perform has to be original. The purpose of this program is to highlight featured local performers and to create a high quality accessible open our stage to the wider community to elevate the local performance arts scene.

Your Host & Co-Producer: Steve Craik

After a brief adventure back to Vancouver, Steve returned to Victoria in 2021 when alongside dear friend and drummer Brendan Pye, created the musical collective “14 Flamingos”. Outside of music Steve had been a dedicated supporter of others artistic pursuits. During the lockdown he co-created the viral facebook group “Get Down with the lockdown.” Where he acted as entertainment director hosting over a hundred different artists in almost 300 livestream shows from 2020-2022. Shortly after the paint was put on the walls he joined Haus of Owl. In January of 2022 he began hosting and co-producing the Garden Sessions and Parking Lot Sessions.

Garden Session’s Media Specialist and Co-Producer: Jake Insley

Jake is a Digital Media Specialist and Producer that first approached Steve with the idea of filming the Garden Session Artists so they can have content to share around the social media world. That snowballed into a co-producer/host role and taking over the Live Stream efforts, using a mix of YOUTUBE Live, IG Live and OBS software as well as taking on the stage and lighting design for all the shows and occasionally joining Steve on stage. Jake also takes photos and videos of all the performers and shares it on a google drive instantly during every show so artists can get images and sometimes bits of video of them in our beautiful performance space.
