Haus of Owl’s Partnerships
Reuben and the Dark
Reuben and the Dark is the spirited folk-rock outfit led by Reuben Bullock, whose music blends introspective lyrics with the irrepressible pulse and complicit harmonies of his band. On the Calgary-bred frontman’s third studio album, un | love, Reuben opens a breathtakingly honest window into one of the most dramatic times in his life, baring the emotional depths encountered at life’s crossroads. Reuben and the Dark’s music is a heartrending yet free-spirited confrontation of that place, a spiritual meeting that Bullock conjures with his audience nightly, revealing more with each transformative performance. Rising from his painterly, ashen lyrics, dancing on a tightrope of exultation, is the beauty of catharsis: the crystallization of psychic resonance between band and audience, shared through music.
The Victoria Poetry Project
Through its programming, VPP aims to provide CRD and Vancouver Island audiences access to professional and emerging spoken word artists from across Canada; to provide community members of all experience levels a stage to share their own poetry; to encourage and facilitate dialogue between spoken word and other artistic communities in Victoria; and to welcome and encourage diverse voices in the spoken word community and at VPP events. In accordance with our community values, we strive to challenge racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism and systemic oppression in all forms in our programming, organizational practices, and perspectives. Haus of Owl and the Victoria Poetry Project collaborate to uplift the spoken word poetry community together.
